Two matric pupils from St Marys DSG, Kloof, Nqobile Makhanya and Azwile Ngubo, as part of a South African delegation, will be attending the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC) to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from April 1 to 6.
This is as a result of their successes in the National competition (NIDPSC) last year.
They will compete in four categories: Debating, Prepared Speaking, Interpretive Reading and Impromptu speaking.
Ms Kirsten has been selected as an adjudicator and manager for the South African delegation, and will accompany the girls to Malaysia.
The World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC) is an annual English-language competition that brings together high school pupils from around the world to compete in debating and public speaking. It serves as the individual public speaking counterpart to the World Schools Debating Championships.
The most recent tournament took place in April 2024, hosted by Canberra Girls Grammar School in Canberra, Australia, where Anna Gage of Canada was crowned the overall world champion.
The inaugural WIDPSC was hosted by Reading Blue Coat School in Reading, England, in 1988 and the event remained in England until 1995, before expanding to various international locations.
