A teacher was shot and killed in front of pupils at the Phikiswayo Primary School in Ntuzuma, near KwaMashu on Monday morning.
The KZN Department of Education has deployed Special Needs Education Services (SNES) to provide support to the traumatised children and teachers.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of a dedicated educator. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and school community during this devastating time,” said Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka.
The department also condemned the senseless act of violence and called upon law enforcement to expedite their investigation to ensure justice is served.
They urged anyone with information to assist the police.
