Zizipho Noqazo scooped the Overall Best Presenter Award at the 10th International Conference on Social Sciences in Bangkok last week.
A Durban University of Technology public relations student was named best presenter at a recent international conference.
Zizipho Noqazo, a PR and communications Master’s student, beat 80 other presenters from 15 countries to win the Overall Best Presenter Award at the 10th International Conference on Social Sciences (ICOSS) 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Her presentation, titled The Uptake of Digital Marketing by Rural Communities in Flagstaff, South Africa was based on her research which aims to determine the uptake of digital marketing by consumers in rural areas of Flagstaff, Eastern Cape, where she was born and raised
Ms Noqazo said presenting her study at ICOSS was a highlight in her journey as a researcher and being awarded the Overall Best Presenter Award was her biggest achievement to date.
“To have my work presented on such a huge platform and appreciated was validating. It was truly a dream realised,” she said.
Natashya Kodituwakku, the Conference Secretariat, congratulated Ms Noqazo on her outstanding achievements and said Ms Noqazo had impressed the audience with her insightful research and dynamic presentation.
“Zizipho’s contributions to the field of social studies was exceptional, sparking thought-provoking discussions among attendees from around the world. The ICOSS provides a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in social studies. Zizipho gave us insight into her hometown, and we would love to hear more from other South African students in the future,” said Ms Kodituwakku.
DUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement, Professor Fulufhelo Nemavhola congratulated Ms Noqazo on her “outstanding contribution”.
“Ms Noqazo’s outstanding contributions have not only brought immense pride to her peers and mentors but have also significantly aligned with the principles and goals of ENVISION2030. Her dedication to her research and active participation in ICOSS 2023 have showcased her commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field of social studies,” said Professor Nemavhola.
“Her work has not only earned recognition but has also highlighted the importance of academic research in addressing critical global challenges and contributing to sustainable development.”
Ms Noqazo said her supervisor, Dr Elvis Madondo, had helped her register for the conference which she had attended virtually. She said she could not have achieved her success without the guidance and support of her supervisor.
Dr Madondo said Ms Noqazo is a hard worker, and her win was not a surprise to him.
“Zizipho worked hard for this win. She has the potential to do great things, she’s a dedicated and hard worker. I look forward to seeing how she continues to shine in the future,” said Dr Madondo.
