Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of heroin capsules and powder, crack cocaine, pure cocaine powder and Mandrax tablets with a street value of R155 000 following a multi-task team operation in Phoenix on Monday.
Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence, National Intervention Unit, Tactical Response Team, Durban Metro Police and private security companies arrested the two suspects aged 48 and 53 years old.
SAPS spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo said police had received information about the suspects who were allegedly dealing in drugs in the Westham area.
“A joint operation was conducted and police swooped in on the premises. Upon entering, the suspects fled the scene and further information was received about the whereabouts of the drugs. The team proceeded to that address where a search was conducted. There, police found heroin capsules, heroin powder, crack cocaine, pure cocaine powder and mandrax tables to the street value of approximately R155000,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mhlongo.
The two suspects were placed under arrest and they were expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest and applauded the members for the good work.
