For 15 years a Durban organisation has been making winter just a little bit warmer for its beneficiaries.
Every year the Durban Buddha’s Light Association and YS Distributors, along with other sponsors have distributed 1000 winter warming parcels and 100 wheelchairs.
Amy Wang, the vice-president of Buddha’s Light and director of YS Distributors, who has been involved in ensuring that the community obtains assistance, hopes that this will encourage others to also provide much needed help where they can.
“The distribution of these parcels is to show acts of kindness and compassion according to the teachings of the Buddha and is held on the Buddha’s birthday to celebrate him. YS Distributors staff worked tirelessly to ensure each of the 1000 winter warming parcels were filled with essentials such as warm clothing, blankets, shoes and other items,” said Ms Wang.
The event was held at the Phoenix Technical school on May 11 where the attendees also performed the ritual of “bathing’’ the Buddha – an act to wash away any mistakes or wrong doings that may have been committed in the past and encouraged to pray with a clean heart for guidance.
“The aim of this is to also allow those attending to be filled with the blessings of the Buddha and to enhance their kindness and compassion to all those around you,” said Ms Wang.
