The Royal Agricultural Exhibition, hosted at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg, promises a vibrant showcase of innovation and tradition, with an array of exhibitors spanning two halls.
It kicked off today, Thursday May 23 and runs until Tuesday May 28.
Reverting to its original format of all things agricultural, the exhibition will no longer host entertainment events, a funfair for children, as well as a host of other activities.
Visitors, can however, anticipate enjoy two sales halls with a myriad of offerings, from cutting-edge solar solutions to gardening as well as leatherwear, herbal products, delectable meat offerings, and fashionable clothing which will be on sale.
Adding a touch of artistry, the KZN branch of the South African Cake Decorators Guild will present an exquisite display, emphasizing their mastery in decoration across six categories.
Zahera Paruk, spokesperson for the guild, emphasized, “Our focus is on the art of decorating, ranging from elaborate multi-tiered wedding cakes to whimsical sugar craft creations.”
Outside will be an impressive array of agricultural equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and construction vehicles. Various car dealerships will also have vehicles on display.
For those seeking a deeper dive into the world of agriculture, there will be an interactive Sheep and Wool Expo.
Distinguished breeds take centre stage, with the elegant Angora goats from Grootfontein Angora Stud capturing attention alongside the indigenous veld goats showcased by the KZN Indigenous Veld Goat Club.
On Saturday and Sunday May 25 and 26 the National Wool Growers Association will host sheep shearing demonstrations, offering a fascinating glimpse into the industry’s intricacies.
