Mallaz Customs in Durban is more than just a place to build a custom vehicle or buy trendy clothes and accessories. It’s a hub for community development, a place where people can learn new skills, get rehabilitated, and receive outreach support. And now, this innovative business is showcasing its work in a new upcoming Netflix reality show called Show Ponies.
The show follows the daily lives of the Mallaz team as they run their business and carry out their mission to make Durban a great city again. The show is a mix of heartwarming stories, fun work moments, hilarious alter ego characters and touching testimonials from people who have benefited from the shop’s programmes.
“We wanted to use the show to raise awareness about the amazing work that Mallaz Customs is doing in Durban,” says the show’s co-producer, Byron Kennedy. “We hope that viewers will be inspired by their story and perhaps even support their cause.”
The Mallaz team says it is thrilled to have the opportunity to share its message of hope with a wider audience. “We believe that everyone deserves a chance to succeed in life, no matter what their circumstances are,” says the shop’s founder, Gary Bezuidenhout. “We’re using our business and our show to self fund a skills development centre, a rehabilitation facility, and various outreach programmes, so that we can help as many people as possible.”
Show Ponies will start streaming on Netflix in early 2024.
