The Durban Botanic Gardens Trail of Lights promises to be a spectacular event again this year.
The festive season is drawing closer and following last year’s bumper show, the popular Trail of Lights at the Durban Botanic Gardens is set to re-open from December 8 until January 3, next year, bringing enchantment and joy to visitors of all ages.
The theme of this year’s Trail of Lights, now in its seventh year, is “Garden Glow” and the technical team behind the event is promising ‘a radiant spectacle that showcases the breathtaking beauty of the Durban Botanic Gardens.
Event organiser, Alene Naidoo confirmed that there will be annual favourites but loads of new displays that promise to surprise and delight all.
The Trail of Lights will also join in the celebrations of the Durban Botanic Gardens reaching its milestone 175 years since establishment.
This makes it the oldest botanical gardens in Africa and is renowned for its lush greenery and vibrant flora.
Visitors can wander along the trail or take a detour, to find a surprise around every corner, revealing multiple pockets of dazzling light installations that showcase the natural surroundings in all their beauty.
The Trail of Lights is a family-focused outing with something that will appeal to everybody - from the really young to the young at heart.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of entertainment and live music each evening, festive characters and live “selfie spots” across the gardens, and two food gardens offering a wide selection of food and beverages, to suit every palate.
You can also grab a picture with Father Christmas, have your face painted, play a game or find the Grinch while supporting various worthy causes at the charity-hosted Santa’s Workshop, mail off your Christmas wish list at the North Pole Mailbox, and do your last minute (or first) festive shopping.
Wheelchairs will be available to hire on a first come first served basis.
In addition, one of last year’s most popular attraction’s Paws and Claus, where visitors can take their dogs along to the event to join in the fun will be held on December 10, 13 and 14.

The Trail of Lights will be closed on December 11, 12, 25 and 31.
