The third edition of the Harcourts Hilton Art in the Country at Harrington House in Hilton will showcase some of the country’s top artists, said convenor Kathy Jacob.
“We’re looking forward to an exceptional show. The exhibitors are all frantically putting together the finishing touches to their works they plan to exhibit,” Jacob said.
Early indications suggest that last year’s sales figure of R1.25 million and foot traffic of more than 3 000 visitors will be exceeded this weekend’s event.
Two local artists will be among those showcasing their work at Art in the Park this year.
Tanja Davey, from Durban North, does abstract art work and in contrast also paints flora and fauna wherein she expresses her affinity and love of the natural world.
Hillcrest’s Lesley Ireland Mathew, after obtaining a Fine Art degree from the University of Natal, taught matric art for 20 years. She became a full-time artist in 2013 and works from her studio in Hillcrest. Her work is described as focusing on “the miracle of the planet and often juxtaposes different elements to show their connectedness and interdependence”.
The event opened today, Thursday May 23 and runs until Sunday May 26. Entry is R30 each, while pensioners pay R20 and scholars R10.
