The KwaZulu-Natal premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli, recently attended the prestigious Chinese Spring Festival Gala Dinner hosted by the Chinese Consul General in Durban, Li Zhigong, and his wife, Li Hong.
The vibrant event is held annually to mark the beginning of the global Chinese New Year celebrations, and is a highlight on the Chinese calendar that is observed by millions around the world.
The Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, symbolises family reunions, cultural festivities, and fresh beginnings. It is a time when families come together to welcome prosperity, happiness, and good fortune for the year ahead.
Premier Ntuli, in his address, commended the Chinese Consulate for its efforts in strengthening economic and cultural ties between China and KwaZulu-Natal.
He said it was important for the countries to collaborate, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, skills development, and education.
“The provincial government remains dedicated to exploring further opportunities for growth and cooperation with Chinese businesses and investors,” Premier Ntuli stated, highlighting the potential for rural development and industrial expansion in KwaZulu-Natal.
